We had a blast at Bray’s Brew Pub on Friday night, and we are very excited about our successful debut gig at Buck’s Naked BBQ in Freeport, Maine on Saturday night! Thank you Norma, Bruce, Lavender Blues Gals, Jessie and Sue, and JC and his lovely wife and friends for staying all night and supporting our music! We look forward to getting in the rotation there in 2015. And Sunday, over in Waterford, playing at the Camp To Belong Music Festival was just so lovely and fun… this will be another event we will look forward to every year, as well! And, I’m told the First Annual Sammy Chapman Golf Classic & Music Festival was a huge hit.

BCR is so happy to be a part of all of these wonderful moments. Thank you!

Next up, The Frog & Turtle – A Gastro Pub! That’s Friday, September 5 at 8:30! See you there!

  2. Heading Into August!

    Posted by

Woah. This summer is going by WAY TOO FAST! Though we are sad to say goodbye to July in a few days, we are excited to roll into August, because this first weekend is always a doozy! We are, of course, speaking of DAM BLUES FEST and Pub Crawl!

Did you know that our very own Steve “The Iceman” Bailey was in on this humble little blues festival right from the very get go? Organized and run by our very good friends Paul and Debra Sidelinger, the Dam Blues Fest is heading into it’s 5th year! Paul and Debra have brought in some fantastic talent from Maine and beyond! In the past four years, we’ve seen the awesome J.P. Soars & The Red Hots (Florida), The Racky Thomas Band (Boston), Lydia Warren (Boston/beyond), Victor Wainwright (Georgia), Sugar Ray & The Blue Tones (Boston), and more! It’s also always been a wonderful and warm show case for our Maine blues acts, both on the main stage and on the Pub Crawl. So, this is a Black Cat Road approved event, and we would really like to see you all there!

This year, Black Cat Road will be performing on the Pub Crawl, over at Schooner Landing. On your way hang with us, be sure to stop in and check out our friends; The Juke Joint Devils, Ragged Jack, and The Blood Orange Martinis. All the performances, times, venues and ticket information are listed at the Dam Blues Fest web site, and be sure to like it on the Facebook!

BEFORE we head up / down to Damariscotta on Saturday, August 2, we will be sneaking in another little show at The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook, Me. We play from 8:30 to 10:30 or so, and we really have a great time in that room. Intimate and cozy, awash with the intoxicating aromas from chef James’ kitchen – ah. It’s all right, baby. That’s Friday, August 1.

We have had some great times! July is just around the corner, and we still have dates available for booking.. weddings, bar mitzvahs, your birthday party.. HOLLA!

  4. Maine Blues Festival!

    Posted by

It’s almost time for The Maine Blues Festival weekend! This will mark it’s ninth year running in beautiful Naples, Maine, and the members of Black Cat Road are proud to be part of this exciting event again. This year, we have been asked to come back to The Freedom Cafe as the final act of the day. That will be Saturday, June 14, and we kick things off at 9:00 p.m. To make things even more fun, we’ve asked a few special guests to join us for a set or two, so be sure to swing by to catch the crazy action that only Black Cat Road can provide. As a side note, June 14 also happens to be our very own Steve “The Iceman’s” birthday….29 again!

Sunday, June 15, the duo (Steve and Jess) will be performing an afternoon slot over at Captain Jack’s at the Naples Marina from 1:00 p.m to 4:00 p.m. A great place to unwind and relax while still getting your blues fix.

Then, back over to The Tailgate Sports Bar & Grill for the weekly Open Blues Jam, hosted by The Iceman and Black Cat Road, at a special Blues Festival weekend time of 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.!

    See you there!

  5. Meet Krank!

    Posted by

Black Cat Road officially welcomes Chris “Krank” Hartogh to the drum chair! Chris is an old friend of ours, and was the long time drummer with our friends Pam Baker & The SG’s. He is a fantastic musician and has a very interesting life story, so don’t be shy about asking him about it when you talk to him at one of our gigs!

Don’t worry, all you Kenny Chapman fans.. We love the guy to bits and pieces, and he will still be with us on some occasions, as well as our main drummer for the Sunday afternoon Tailgate Open Blues Jams! Thanks to Kenny for three years of driving down Black Cat Road with us! We love you and you totally rock! You can catch Kenny perform with our good pals Matt & The Barnburners and The Dave Mello Band.

  6. Happy Spring!

    Posted by

We just found out today that one of our very favorite venues to perform in will be closing it’s doors on May 3rd… Sadly, we have to take four gigs scheduled at Gingko Blue off the calendar. We will surely miss playing there!

However, we are excited to announce that Black Cat Road has been asked to perform at another one of our very favorite venues, The Frog & Turtle Gastro Pub! This show is FRIDAY, MAY 2! It’s an early night.. we start somewhere between 8:00 and 8:30 p.m. and go until somewhere between 10:00 and 11:00 p.m. The F & T is famous for it’s fine dining, exciting beverage selection, and it’s warm, funky atmosphere.

We hope to see you there!

  7. Birthday Gig

This Friday, January 24, 2014, Black Cat Road is playing at The Phoenix at Sunday River ~ 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

~ This is also Jessica’s birthday. ~ I think I overheard her telling someone that she would really enjoy your presence.

(Maybe it was that she would really enjoy your ‘presents’)….

Either way, stop round to say Happy Day to Jessie Mae!

… to next weekend, due to the big old ice storm.

We will be celebrating Karen’s birthday same time, same place, next Sunday, December 29! Hope to see you there!

  9. Last Shows Of The Year

    Posted by

2013 has been an exciting year for Black Cat Road. We feel as if we have grown in both our sound and depth, and have made a whole lot of new friends along the way. We know our fans are just as anxious as we are for us to get some music out to you, and we believe 2014 will finally be the year for those wheels to get turning. Our band is maturing, perhaps, at a slower rate than most folks are used to, but that’s just the way we roll. All this time we’ve been aging our sounds, leading us up to a studio release that should really capture what we are all about. This is what we hope for and we thank all of you who have supported us with your love and dollars added to our tip jar / studio fund!

Our last full band appearance for the year will be on New Year’s Eve at LaFleur’s Restaurant in Jay, Maine. $40 per person includes an appetizer, choice of 4 entrees, light dessert, champagne midnight toast, and of course, Black Cat Road! They suggest you call to make a reservation (207-897-2117.)

The band will be in Rockland, Maine at The Time Out Pub on Sunday, December 22 from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. It’s our friend’s birthday party, but I’m pretty sure the pub will be open to anyone, so come on by if you’re in the neighborhood!

You can also check out the DUO on Monday, December 23 at The Phoenix at Sunday River. Steve and Jess will be performing during cocktail hour and into dinner hour, so be sure to stop in and say hi to them if you have been out on the slopes!

  10. More Black Cat Road Coming Your Way

    Posted by

We appreciate the warm comments we received both in person and on our Facebook page in regards to our  “207″ debute on October 25th! In case you missed it, here is a link to our segment. It shows the intro with the host, the performance of our song “Crow Stew,” and a short interview segment. Be sure to scroll down to view the second video showing the performance of our original song “Black Cat Road.” We had a blast going on “the TEE VEE!”, and special thanks to our friend and WCSH6 producer Krister Rollins for hooking us up with the opportunity.

The Harvest On The Harbor event was really fun, too. Playing for hundreds of folks, intoxicated by the smells of BBQ… oh yes. That was right in our wheelhouse.

Thanks to Chris Plumstead for this Instagram 10/25/13

Coming up next is our return to the fabulously chic Gingko Blue in the Old Port of Portland. That is Friday, November 15, 2013, and we begin at 8:00 p.m. Gingko Blue has started serving food, again, too, so how can you go wrong? See you out there!
